NORCROSS, Ga. -- Police said that a father came home on Friday to find his family dead in what they believe could have been a murder suicide.
The incident happened in the 700 block of Pebble Creek a wooded residential area east of Jimmy Carter Blvd.
Police have been investigating since first receiving a "person shot" call around 4 p.m. That's when a man called to report that his 55-year-old wife, 26-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter were all shot to death.
Police are still investigating the incident and the possibility that the son shot the other two before turning the weapon on himself.
At this point, a final cause of death and exactly what happened at that Norcross area home are both matters of further investigation.
"Detectives are working to determine the sequence of events that took place before the homicides and during," Gwinnett Police Corporal Deon Washington said. "More importantly, we are investigating why a tragedy like this would happen one week before Thanksgiving."
Church officials and Critical Incident Stress Management have both been called to aid families and those involved.
"This is a very tragic situation for this family, one week before Thanksgiving," Washington said. "When most are finalizing their holiday plans, for them to have to deal with something so tragic is heartbreaking."
