Puppy set on fire in church parking lot dies

The animal set on fire in the parking lot of a Harbison Boulevard church.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Deputies in a South Carolina county are trying to find a man who they say killed a puppy by setting it on fire at a church parking lot Saturday night.

A witness called officers around 7 p.m. to say the animal - a female pitbull between 8 and 10 weeks old - was injured in the parking lot of Grace United Methodist Church on Harbison Boulevard in Richland County, S.C.

Officers haven't said yet what they believe led up to man hurting the animal, or why he may have done it.

The puppy was taken to the South Carolina Animal Hospital where she later died.

Anyone who may know anything in this case should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
