WANTED | 17-year-old hiding out after armed carjacking

Warrants are out for the teen's arrest

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Police are searching for an armed 17-year-old they believe is hiding out after carjacking a taxi driver.

Gwinnett County Police investigators say social media tips helped them name Christopher Bass as the suspect in a May 9 taxi carjacking

Bass was captured by surveillance video inside the Shell Gas Station at Jimmy Carter Blvd. and Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Moments after that video, he got into a taxi. Police say Bass asked the driver to take him to an apartment complex on Preston Lake Drive. When they arrived, Bass allegedly pulled a gun, demanded money, and forced the driver out of the taxi.

Ten days after the crime, Gwinnett County police said they confirmed tips that identified the carjacker as 17-year-old Christopher Bass.

There are warrants out for Bass on hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a theft of a motor vehicle.

"Thankfully no one was physically hurt during this carjacking.  But, it’s extremely important that Bass is located and arrested as quickly as possible," a spokesperson for Gwinnett County Police said in the alert. "There is a strong possibility that he is still armed.  We are still seeking tips directly or through Crime Stoppers as to where Bass is hiding."
