A jail services employee has been arrested after accusations that he smuggled contraband into the DeKalb County jail.
In a confrontation on Friday, the sheriff's office arrested 19-year-old Corderius Farley of Decatur on a warrant of criminal attempt to cross a guard line with intent to deliver contraband.
“We needed to make inmates aware that this type of behavior will not be tolerated,” says Sheriff Jeffrey Mann
Farley worked as a food services vendor and had access to inmates who prepared meals in the jail's kitchen. He allegedly worked with one inmate who was awaiting trial for probation violation to get drugs into the Memorial Drive facility. The inmate may have then distributed them further.
Farley's arrest was followed by a sweep of the intake, kitchen and housing units by K9 units and the Jail Emergency Services Team.
In addition to the arrest, Farley is being investigated by the DeKalb Sheriff's Office of Professional Standards and has been terminated. Authorities said the inmate involved, who was not named, has lost "certain privileges" and may faces additional charges after the investigation ends.
