Daycare shut down after employee charged with child molestation

Emergency closure after molestation charge

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A Sandy Springs daycare facility has been shut down by state regulators after they say an employee molested a 7-year-old girl.

The Family Child Care Learning Home is located on Dalrymple Road in Sandy Springs and is owned by 83-year-old Juanita McDonnell.

According to the emergency shut down order, police received a call on Oct. 13 reporting that the girl had been molested by McDonnell’s son, James. On Oct. 20, police arrested 62-year-old James McDonnell and charged him with child molestation.

The daycare’s inspection records indicated McDonnell took care of up to a dozen children at her facility.

McDonnell appealed that emergency closure order but an administrative law judge ruled against her.

State child care authorities told 11Alive’s Valerie Hoff that they could not comment on the case because it’s still under investigation. Juanita McDonnell had not returned requests for comment as of Tuesday afternoon.

James McDonnell was at Fulton County Jail without bond on Tuesday.
