Ga. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, wife hurt in Tenn. car wreck

KNOXVILLE, TN - US Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-11th District, Ga.) and his wife have been injured in a car wreck on Interstate 40 near Knoxville, Tenn.

Loudermilk and his wife were traveling eastbound when his car was rear-ended by a second vehicle. It flipped several times before coming to rest on its side.

"Both the Congressman and Mrs. Loudermilk were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries where they were treated and released," a spokeswoman for the congressman said in a statement. "They have been instructed to return to Georgia for follow-up treatment."

Loudermilk's office released a statement Tuesday afternoon: "The Loudermilk's immediately acknowledged God’s hand in protecting them from serious injury, and they would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as they recover."

Congressman Loudermilk was on an Alexandria, Va., baseball field in June when a gunman opened fire during baseball practice, wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
