DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities in DeKalb County confirmed, Friday, they have managed to stop a major sanitary sewer spill east of Avondale Estates.
The spill began at around 7 p.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Mountain Drive in Decatur, Ga an released an estimated 45,675 gallons of sewage. The spill was finally cleaned up around 5:10 a.m. Friday after authorities created a berm to contain the spill.
Authorities believe the spill originated from a cracked joint on a 12 inch sewer main and spilled into a body of water known as Indian Creek Tributary A.
For those living or working in the area, authorities have posted warning signs along roads, at boat ramps at recreational areas and other points of public access.
