Homeowner shoots intruder with shotgun

Atlanta Police do not expect to file charges against the homeowner who fired a shotgun at an intruder on Portland Avenue in Ormewood Park.

ATLANTA - A homeowner is not expected to face charges after firing a shotgun at an intruder late Monday night in Ormewood Park.

"The homeowner heard a noise and then encountered a suspect inside his home," said Atlanta Police Capt. Clif Johnson. "The homeowner was armed with a shotgun and fired at the suspect."

Police said the suspect got in through the window of a home on Portland Avenue SE.

They don't believe he was armed.

"The suspect was in very critical  condition," Capt. Johnson added. "He was transported for immediate medical care. He was stabilized at Grady."

According to police, the intruder was not carrying any identification.

Police said the homeowner was alone when he heard a noise at about 11:30 p.m.
