16-year-old driver killed in crash with another teen

Funeral arrangements for Joshua Murphy are set after the 16-year-old was killed in a car crash Wednesday.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -- A 16-year-old boy was fatally injured in a car crash Wednesday evening.

According to police, as Joshua Murphy drove his gold Chevrolet Malibu northbound on GA 5, his vehicle crossed the centerline and was struck on the passenger side by a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling southbound.

Murphy was fatally injured.

The driver of the other vehicle, Darien Whitfield, 17, of Winston was injured and taken to Atlanta Medical Center. His two passengers were injured and taken to Grady Hospital.

Ben Newell arrived at the scene shortly after the wreck. He said he prayed for Murphy in his final moments.

"I asked God to take care of him," Newell said. "I asked God to carry him through this time."

Guidance counselors were on hand at Chapel Hill High School Thursday to help students grieving with Murphy's death.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident. Alcohol and drugs were not involved, the GSP said.
