Man who allegedly set fire to house with family inside arrested

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett County Fire Investigators have charged a man who allegedly set fire to a house with a family inside.

Tiamo Thorpe, 31, of College Park is being charged with four counts of aggravated assault, one count of first degree arson, one count of stalking and several other charges.

Thorpe was arrested by Atlanta Police on a stalking charge earlier this week and taken by Gwinnett County Police for violation of a temporary protection order in connection with this case.

According to fire Investigators, an accelerant was used to spark the fire at the home with four people inside in the early morning hours of July 28. None were injured, but there was considerable damage to the front of the residence.

"Thorpe's actions placed each occupant in extreme danger and limited their means of egress by setting fire to the front entryway," said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge.

Thorpe is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond at this time.
