Atlanta rapper caught in coffee house sting, charged in elaborate scam

Police say the investigation uncovered high end vehicles and stolen identities

EAST POINT - An Atlanta rapper is at the center of what investigators are calling an elaborate scam involving high-end vehicles, stolen identities, and a coffee house sting.

William Reddick, who goes by the stage name Slim 4187, is charged with one count of theft by deception after he allegedly fraudulently obtained a rental car.

Former police officer Ryan Jones now works for Norred & Associates, a private investigation firm hired by the rental car company to work the case, said the way Reddick cheated the system is a growing scam.

“This sticker was on the inside door of our stolen car,” Jones showed 11Alive. “What he did was rent the vehicle with the intentions of changing the VIN number and legally registering it as if was his own.”

Jones says Reddick acquired the VIN from a Cadillac dealership in Alabama. He then allegedly used the identity and credit card of a New York resident to rent the SUV from a Georgia rental car company where he switched the VIN numbers. The vehicle was recovered in Mississippi while in route to California.

On behalf of his clients, Jones initiated a sting.

"That's how we acquired his real name,” Jones said.

When Reddick showed up at a Little Five Points coffee shop, he was taken into custody.

“So I used a ploy that I used with city of Atlanta Police Department commonly. I told the suspect that I was considering employing him for an event. He was eager to take part and I told him that I had a check cut and that's

Reddick waived his first court appearance and with a bond set at $10,000.

The stolen rental SUV was recovered in Mississippi after a traffic stop. Multiple questionable vehicles were being carried across the country, and investigators believe this bust is part of a much larger ring.
