Body of missing boy discovered in Allatoona Lake

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Early Saturday, authorities recovered the body of a missing 6-year-old boy about 30 feet from the shore in Allatoona Lake.

The search for 6-year-old Corday Duffy of College Park started Friday night around the Sweetwater Campground in Canton.

"We didn't want it to end this way," said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. "This is hard on the family and first-responders."

The boy was playing with his siblings and cousins when he went missing. He was last seen in his family's tent at 7:30 p.m. He was at the campground with his grandmother and aunt.

"It appears there's a large log that led from the shore into the lake. It's possibly he walked along the log and fell into the water," Lt. Baker said. "He was never seen in the water. He wasn't swimming or playing in the water. He just slipped away and ended up in the lake."

Duffy's body was discovered in five feet of water at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

No foul play is suspected. The GBI will conduct an autopsy.
