Donated training grenade forces evacuation of local Goodwill

BUFORD, Ga. -- It may not have been a real grenade but the reaction employees - and first responders - had to it was very real.

Authorities said it all began when an employee of the Goodwill store at 3295 Sardis Church Road found the device - one he described as a possible grenade - while sorting through a bin of donations in the receiving area of the store.

Fire officials arrived and immediately set up a hot zone near the device while evacuating about 30 staff and patrons from the building.

Police eventually identified the device as a "non-hazardous training prop" and turned the store back over management.

Though specifics on the "prop" were not released, some are created to train military units in properly throwing the device. It's not clear if this was one of those devices or merely a novelty item.
