Calhoun teen becomes police officer for a day

Teen is police officer for a day

CALHOUN, Ga. -- A dream came true Thursday for a 13-year-old Calhoun boy who recently lost his father to cancer.

Nicholas Sasser had the opportunity to become a police officer for a day.

Sasser's day began with the Calhoun police chief surprising him at his door.  He gave nicholas a Capitol City police uniform and asked him to work with them for the day.

After that, Sasser boarded a helicopter to the Department of Public Safety's headquarters, where his journey as a police officer began.

He participated in a series of fictitious scenarios and he even got the chance to meet Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal.

"It’s been overwhelming, just to be picked up by the police men and to see Nick in the uniform,” Tammie Sasser said.

This is the third year that the DPS has participated in making a deserving child's dream come true.
