Carjacked taxi driver shot in face, suspects use cab during crime spree

It all started with a carjacking.

ATLANTA - It all started with a carjacking. By the time it ended, three separate crime scenes were involved and three people -- including a suspect -- were in the hospital.

Atlanta Police said around  2 a.m. on Tuesday, two men shot a taxi driver in the face at a Pilot gas station on Bouldercrest Road in DeKalb County before speeding off.

"They jacked me, they jacked me," the taxi cab driver shouted, according to the police report.

"He was shot in the mouth I believe," Sgt. Clif Chandler said.

Around 4:30 a.m., the two men struck again.

Police said they rammed a blue BMW i8 on the 1600 block of James Jackson Pkwy. The woman driving the car pulled over on the side of the road, then police said the two men opened fire.

"The suspects in the car began firing at her multiple times. She flees the vehicle into the woods. She's safe, uninjured," said Chandler.

The two men drove off in the cab heading towards Peyton Road where the car stalled. About 10 to 15 minutes later, police received a call reporting another shooting on Peyton Road near James Jackson Pkwy NW.

"It appears that one of the suspects approached the vehicle, fired multiple times into that vehicle, striking that driver multiple times," Chandler said.  The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Another person who was shot at the scene was also rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. Police believe that man is a suspect in the crimes. It's not known who shot him.

The second suspect is still on the run.

Police would not say what they believe the suspects were doing in the 2.5 hour span between the first and second crimes.
