College Park fugitives who taunted cops now behind bars

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (WXIA) -- The online braggadocio of two Georgia fugitives may have been their un-doing.

The two were wanted for the near-fatal shooting of a man in College Park last month. They were nabbed in Los Angeles Thursday night, after taunting police for days on social media.

It wasn't hard to follow the two online. They made it easy. On Shanice Weaver's Instagram account they bragged about getting tattoos and pedicures.

She even had 317 followers. But what she didn't know was that she really had 318. The cops. Who tonight are having the last laugh.

Weaver and Jonathan Bankston had been on the run since June 29th. But on the Internet, they were leaving plenty of footprints on social media, posting pictures and insults at the police, as well as the friends and family of the man they're accused of shooting, 30-year-old Marquel Dalcoe.

"i don't even understand the vitriol that she has toward our family," said Michael Dalcoe, Marquel's father. "I personally have never said anything negative about Shanice. I don't know her well; we don't have a personal relationship; all i knew of her was that she was the mother of my grandchildren, my granddaughters."

Weaver and Dalcoe have two children together.

Police say an argument escalated at this Texaco when she told Bankston to shoot the father of her children.

"The one male went back to the car," said College Park Police Major E.W.Strozier. "The female gave him a gun. (Bankston) went back and shot the other male several times, and got back in the car and fled the scene."

Dalcoe's father says he was as close to death as a person can get. He has since had both legs amputated.

"He lost so much blood," said his father. "He had no blood flow to his extremities. First they thought it would be one, but it ended up being both. And it's tragic because he's a phenomenal drummer, a born drummer, who's been playing drums since he was four year-old."

Dalcoe's family is also using the computer these days. They have a "Go Fund Me" account to help with the staggering medical bills.

As for Bankston and Weaver, they were arrested while eating lunch in sunny L.A.

Status update for the two: Behind bars. Awaiting extradition.
