CONYERS, Ga. (WXIA) -- What was supposed to be a normal morning routine for a Conyers kindergarten teacher Kimya Motley and her 10 year-old daughter Corrine was anything but.
Back in 2011, both were shot in the head by the woman's ex-husband.
After confessing to the crime, Terrance Sherod Roberson told police his life had fallen apart.
He was sentenced to 65 years in prison.
But tonight, instead of living with hate for the man who tried to kill her, the victim is sharing her story of forgiveness and survival.
K: "In 2011, my ex-husband shot my daughter and myself."
K: "We were at her daycare center at Little Mount Christian Academy. I would take her every morning to drop her off."
K: "He was standing right there and he said, I told you I was going to kill you."
K: "It happened because I told him I was going to file for divorce."
K: "When you tell someone who's abusive that you're going to leave or you give them an indication that you are going to leave - that is one of the elevating factors that can lead to homicide."
DM: "Point out the places where he shot you in your face, on your body? He shot me in my face here...."
K: "You do have to look very carefully."
K: "Then here in the side of my neck."
K: "Once in the back of my head here and once in my back."
DM: "It is a miracle that you are still alive."
K: "I know I'm not supposed to be."
K: "He shot my daughter, who was 10 at the time. in the head with a .38"
DM: "Your daughter - how is she doing?"
K: "She's a regular teenager who enjoys school. She enjoys getting into trouble - talking to her friends too much."
K: "She went through a much harder time in recovery that I did. She had to learn to walk again, and talk again and eat again."
K: "I had my mouth wired shut for five months."
K: "There's not one day that goes by and I don't thank god for leaving me here."
K: "I know full well that we are miracles that we are here because he chose us to be here."
DM: "Do you have any hate in your heart?
K: "No, not at all."
DM: "Why do women stay?"
K: "If you don't know what to look for - that's what you will do."
DM: "So, why do you think God left you here?"
K: "To help other women. To help other women."
DM: "Well, God bless you. You are indeed a miracle."
