Two people are dead after a car careened into a home in Conyers - possibly at high speed.
Rockdale County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Michael Meyers said that the crash not only put the car inside the home off of Smyrna Road but killed its two passengers.
First responders said the two occupants were dead by the time they arrived. However, police said the two residents of the home, one in the yard and the other inside, were not harmed in the crash.
The driver of the car was 19-year-old Maurice Shields Jr. from Lithonia and 19-year-old Marisa Kirtz from Conyers was the passenger.
Investigators said the 2008 Infiniti G35 left the road and drove through a fence while traveling north on Smyrna Road at a high rate of speed.
Meyers said the car went "totally inside the house" through a bedroom. No one was in the bedroom at the time. One homeowner was in the yard and the other was outside of the house but said they didn't see anything.
The cause of the crash is still not known.
Because the crash involves a state highway, the Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation.
