Police: Newton County woman wasn't kidnapped

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Investigators now say that a 61-year-old woman found at a hospital after going missing Monday afternoon wasn't kidnapped.

A Mattie's Call was issued on Monday after Brenda Thompson and her vehicle went missing from a Kroger parking lot. Her husband told police that Thompson has dementia and could not drive the car.

The vehicle was later involved in a crash, and Thompson was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

After further investigation, Newton County Sheriff's officials now believe there was no foul play involved. Thompson is being treated for her medical conditions and dementia.
