NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Plenty of questions remain after a 61-year-old woman was found at a hospital after being reported missing from a grocery store parking lot Monday afternoon.
According to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, Brenda Thompson had last seen in her vehicle at the Kroger located on Highway 20 in Covington, Ga. Her husband said he went into the store to purchase medications from the pharmacy. When he came out, both Thompson and the vehicle were gone.
According to the sheriff's office, Thompson has dementia, can't drive and is dependent on oxygen. She was said to be on her last oxygen tank.
Investigators later said that Thompson's car was involved in single-vehicle crash after she was reported missing. Thompson was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
How her car got to the city from Covington, where the fragile woman was allegedly kidnapped, is what Newton County Sheriff's investigators are still trying to piece together. Investigators are operating under the theory that Thompson, who was on her last oxygen tank, was kidnapped from the Kroger parking lot.
Police said the reason they think she was kidnapped is because her husband told investigators she could not drive the car.
So did the kidnapper bail after the crash? They're hoping Brenda Thompson can help clear up some of those questions.
