Coast Guard suspends search for Decatur man who fell from cruise ship

BERRY ISLANDS, Bahamas -- The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing Decatur man who went overboard during a cruise in the Bahamas on Friday.

Authorities say 32-year-old Reco Scott reportedly went overboard from the ninth deck of the Carnival Liberty cruise ship around 5 a.m. while the ship was about 10 miles out from the Berry Islands.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Scott during this extremely difficult time,” said Christopher Eddy, search and rescue mission coordinator for the Coast Guard Seventh District command center. “Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make and it is made with great care and consideration.”

Cruise ship personnel launched a search and contacted the area Coast Guard Command Center. Crews searched by air and see for 29 hours over an area of 1,064 miles. Sadly, that search has yet to locate Scott and was suspended around 6  p.m. on Saturday.
