NEW DETAILS: See what authorities are now saying about the shooting that injured two deputies and left a suspect dead in Pickens County.

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities in Pickens County say two deputies shot responding to a dispute in Talking Rock, Ga. Saturday have been released from the hospital.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. as deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the 1600 block of Carver Mill Road.

Lt. Kris Stancil with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office said two people had gotten into an argument.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they encountered a man brandishing a gun who deputies said would not cooperate.

At some point, the man fired at and injured two deputies. The deputies along with others who responded returned fire killing the suspect.

Stancil said one deputy's protective vest prevented serious injury. The other was shot in an extremity, he said.

By Sunday morning, Stancil confirmed with 11Alive that the deputies had been released from the hospital between midnight and 1 a.m.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Pickens County a spokesperson said.

Though the investigation is ongoing, Stancil said that the two involved in the dispute were not a husband and wife. The suspect has not been named but was native to the area, Stancil said.
