DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- An "out of control" fire burned in downtown Douglasville Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out at around 3:45 a.m. at a commercial building on Bankhead Highway near Campbellton Street. Douglas County spokesman Wes Tallon said the structure housed Town and Country Upholstery.
Tallon said arriving crews determined the fire started in the cellar and quickly spread to the rest of the building. Firefighters made it inside the building, but were forced to back out when the floor collapsed.
Crews are working to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Tallon described the blaze as out of control.
One firefighter was injured and taken to WellStar Douglas Hospital. There were no other reports of any injuries.
Bankhead Highway is closed between Bowden and Campbellton streets as crews work to battle the fire. The Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks near the scene are also closed.
