Tributes, condolences pouring in for victims of fatal Duluth fire

House fire that killed five under investigation

DULUTH, Ga. -- Within hours after fire tore through a Duluth home and killed five adults inside, friends of those lost began posting words of sympathy on social media.

Now families of five people killed in a Duluth house fire are in deep mourning, trying to come to terms with their loss.

Tuesday, the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner said all five died from smoke and soot inhalation, and released their identities:

Kelley Tomkinson, 47; Kimberly Arterburn Lewis, 45; David Allen Waring, 45; Danielle Waring, 19; Edward Cameron Brown, 21.

David and Danielle Waring were father and daughter, according to David's son and Danielle's brother, who is also named David.  And he said Cameron was Danielle's boyfriend.

Cameron Brown's friends are posting on his Facebook page to put into words their feelings of loss.

"You we're an inspiration to people," one friend wrote. "Always had a smile," another wrote.

A friend of Kim Arterburn Lewis wants all to know about Lewis, and about the Gofundme page that the friend set up to help Lewis's two young daughters. So far, the page has raised more than $3,500 and was just shy of reaching the $4,000 goal. The outpouring of condolences has been overwhelming.

One of the donors wrote, "Your mom was an amazing lady. She loved you girls so much!!!"

It was just after three o'clock Sunday morning when horrified neighbors began calling 911. Gwinnett County firefighters say the fire engulfed the house in the dead of night Sunday. It was so big and so hot, they could only attack it from the outside as best they could.

Investigators have not figured out what started it, but they believe they know where it started – in the back deck area, where neighbors had seen a fire pit Saturday night.

Now, one friend could be speaking for all when she posted, “Our hearts are broken.”
