GAINESVILLE, GA -- A national fuel supplier tells 11Alive news that it’s likely the fuel shortage has peaked. That’s the good news. The bad news is that spot shortages are likely to continue through the weekend.
Colonial Pipeline is hoping to get its multi-state pipeline working in the next day or so. Nonetheless, motorists will need to continue to keep an eye out for spot fuel shortages for the rest of this week, according to Andy Milton, the Gainesville-based supply vice president for Mansfield Oil.
"I would expect challenges for the next few days. It’s definitely going to be tight," Milton said. "It’s not something you need to panic over or something that’s going to get so bad you need to freak out but – I think it’s good to be cautious."
Starting this coming weekend, Milton says he expects fuel shortages to slowly disappear. But he says the supply – and the price – will need at least a couple of weeks to return to what has been normal for metro Atlanta.
Once the pipeline resumes operation "I do think we really need a week or two to really get back into a good pace," Milton said.
