Gov. Deal alters state of emergency for Chatham Co.

WXIA Breaking News

SAVANNAH, GA - Governor Deal has altered the state of emergency order for Chatham County.

After receiving a recommendation from the state's Emergency Operations Command as well as the Chatham County Emergency Management Agency, the governor has issued an executive order altering the emergency declaration for Chatham County.

Zone B and C in Chatham Co. will be moving to a 'voluntary evacuation order'.

The mandatory evacuation order issued by Gov. Deal still remains in effect for all of Zone A.

Due to the lack of traffic using contraflow, the Georgia Department of Transportation is removing contraflow operations on I-16 by 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

Normal traffic configurations will return for both westbound and eastbound travel lanes.

This allows the state to relocate resources being used for contraflow and transition them westward.
