NEWNAN, GA. - More than 100 Harley Davidson riders and motorcycles took part in a first-ever event on Sunday that honored a fallen brother.
On Aug. 6, 2016, Billy Maples was killed in a head-on collision when a driver crossed the double yellow line in a curve to pass another vehicle on Hwy 113 in Carrollton.
The first Billy Maples Rider Down Fund ride and benefit was held on Sunday to benefit the Carroll County Community Riders, a fund that has been established to help motorcyclists involved in an accident with financial assistance.
The ride began at Great South Harley Davidson in Newnan and ended at the American Legion Post 145 in Douglasville.
"It's bitter sweet,” said his widow Connie Maples. “It's very emotional, but I'm happy and pleased that as many did come out in honor of him and all the fallen riders.”
Several thousand dollars was raised during Sunday’s ride.
