ATLANTA - A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said they are monitoring traffic plans and adjusting detours as necessary to ensure drivers are able to maneuver throughout the city efficiently.
"Our advice to driver right now is as you take these detours, be mindful of your speed and to also pay attention to not only the traffic lights, but also the officers that are directing traffic," said Ofc. Donald Hannah.
Effective immediately, the following streets/roadways will be closed indefinitely to traffic:
*Northbound Piedmont is closed at Lambert Drive;
*Southbound Piedmont is closed at Buford Connector – all vehicles must turn onto Buford Connector to get to I-85 SB;
*Access to I-85 North off of Piedmont Circle is also blocked;
*Lenox Road at Ga. 400 SB is blocked;
*There is no access from Sidney Marcus onto Buford Highway;
*SB on Buford Highway must turn onto Sidney Marcus;
*West Peachtree can only continue onto Peachtree Road and cannot access Buford Connector NB;
*The intersection at Lambert Drive and Manchester is closed.
Ofc. Hannah said the plan is to monitor traffic over the weekend and if things need to be changed as it relates to a staggered entry in and out of the city, APD would consider enacting that as well.
Officer Hannah said moving forward, drivers should know alternate routes. "I think if nothing else this has taught us it's very important to know more than one way home and more than one way to work. And to utilize public transit."
The Georgia State Patrol is also assisting Atlanta Police with traffic detail.
