Tales of the FedEx shooting: Inside the ER

MARIETTA, Ga. (WXIA) – The job of tending to the injured from Tuesday's shooting in Kennesaw fell to the men and women at the Emergency Room at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Just three years old, the trauma unit at Wellstar Kennestone is always ready for a major incident at a moment's notice, said Dr. Barry Renz, medical director for Wellstar's trauma services.

But it is very rare they have to deal with so many victims from a single incident.

"On a general day, we don't see gunshot wounds," Dr. Renz told 11Alive's Blayne Alexander. "We occasionally get a gunshot wound here, maybe a couple of times a month, sometimes none."

On Tuesday, in just 11 minutes time, the trauma unit saw six gunshot victims.

11Alive's Blayne Alexander and photojournalist Pete Smith take you inside the emergency room during those tense hours, as doctors, nurses and emergency personnel responded to the mass shooting.
