Lenox Square evacuated after gas leak scare

Lenox Square was evacuated early Tuesday morning because of a gas leak.

Lenox Square Mall has been evacuated after security guards smelled gas.

A spokesperson for Atlanta Police told 11Alive News a guard called for help after smelling gas in the truck tunnel running beneath the Peachtree Road complex.

The mall was immediately evacuated, and Atlanta Police were also restricting access to the parking lot. Atlanta Fire Rescue was able to turn off the gas and as of 7:45 a.m., Atlanta police allowed access to the parking lot again

A spokeswoman for Atlanta Gas Light said the gas line was cut by a third party.  While gas crews are on scene, no ETA could be given on when it will be fixed.

Because of the early morning hour, only security and maintenance workers were in the building at the time of the evacuation.

Lenox Square Mall opens to the public at 10 a.m.
