Marietta Police hold internet safety seminar for parents

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The horrific images played out live on social media as his friends watched: 13-year-old Malachi Hemphill accidentally shot himself. The tragedy has brought another wave of awareness for parents trying to raise teenagers in the digital age.

The Marietta Police Department has been holding a series of seminars for parents about internet safety. The next one is scheduled for April 26.

"While our focus is on finding ways to fight and prevent crime we are also dedicated in finding ways to educate the public," a statement from the Marietta Police said.

The seminar will focus on educating parents on the latest social media trends and texting. Parents will come away understanding those trends as well as state laws on sexting and cyber bullying.
