Former Christian school teacher wanted for 'sexual assault' turns self in

Teacher accused of sex with teen behind bars

MARIETTA, Ga. --  Police confirm a former Christian school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student and then trying to entice another has turned himself over to authorities.

Christopher Wade Brown, 37, turned himself over to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office late Friday night and is now in custody at the Cobb County Jail on a $55,000 bond.

Brown is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student in July when he was a teacher at Mt. Paran Christian School. The victim was not a student of Brown's, officials said. Officials said they don't believe there are any other victims at that school.

Brown is also accused of recently attempting to have sex with a 15-year-old student from Roswell High School. Roswell police said that the 17-year-old student wanted out of the relationship with Brown, so she introduced him to the Roswell student. Police said Brown and the 15-year-old kissed in a parking lot after Brown had told his wife that he was going to tutor the teen.

Mt. Paran Christian School released a statement Friday morning saying Brown was fired on Oct. 4 after the school learned he "committed a violation of the standards of our Christian community," according to Headmaster Dr. David Tilley.

Tilley said Brown worked at the school for a year teaching high school physics, chemistry and computer science. He said that Brown actually informed the school that he was under investigation. The school then told him to stay away from the campus until they could do their own investigation. He was fired shortly after that.

"The MPCS community pledges continued and full support with legal authorities as this matter is pursued. MPCS remains fully committed to a Christ-centered environment that takes very seriously its role in protecting the safety and well-being of all students," a release read.

In an afternoon news conference, school officials said that they did a thorough vetting process before Brown was hired. He passed a national background check and a extensive reference check. The school said they have no plans to change that vetting process.

Brown is facing charges of sexual assault by a teacher, influencing a witness and enticing a child.

Marietta Police Department, Roswell Police Department and Cobb County Sheriff's Office are working to locate and arrest him.
