Man arrested after fatal Marietta shooting

MARIETTA, Ga. – Marietta Police identified a 19-year-old man killed in a shooting at the Columns at Bentley Manor Apartments Tuesday afternoon. A second man was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police said they responded to the apartment complex at about 2:30 p.m., after receiving a report of a person down. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, Daryus Johnson of Marietta, unconscious on the floor of the apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said they discovered that Johnson and 19-year-old Elyjah Marrow were in the apartment. They said Marrow was recklessly handling a handgun, which discharged accidentally, injuring Johnson.

Marrow was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a stolen firearm. He is presently being held in the Cobb County Jail.
