MARIETTA, Ga -- While most of Cobb County was focusing attention on a terroristic mass shooting at the FedEx facility in Kennesaw, an armed robber was terrorizing a clerk at a check cashing store on Delk Road.
It was 8:35am Tuesday when a suspect wearing all dark clothing walked into Alika Business Services at 2555 Delk Road. He followed an employee in who just unlocked the front door for business.
The suspect wore a mask and carried a handgun in the pocket of a dark blue hoodie he was wearing. He forced the female employee to a back office to open a safe. "Whatever he asked she did," said Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin. "She got him what he wanted, which was the cash, and then stayed out of his way so that he could successfully leave."
But he didn't. "He has the freedom to leave but for whatever reason he doesn't," Ofc. Baldwin said.
The suspect walked out of the office and then turned around and came back in closing the door. "I can't imagine what this poor girl is going through realizing the door closes," Baldwin said as he watched the surveillance video.
The suspect hit the clerk in the face and knocked her to the ground. "And then he starts to kick her when she's down," Baldwin said. "He continue to threaten her life and starts to walk off but come back up and she gets another round of verbal and physical abuse."
Finally the suspect left the business after dropping his mask and casually walked away. Police believe the suspect may live near the business which is surrounded by several apartment complexes.
"We really need to get him off the street," Baldwin said. "The victim really endured a great deal even after complying and we need to make sure that he has to answer for what he's done."
Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Marietta Police Detective Mike Freer at 770-794-5477 or call the Department's Anonymous Tip Line at 770-794-6990.
