Cheers, gripes conclude Ga. voter registration

ATLANTA – More than 6.5 million people are registered to vote in the upcoming election, according to the Georgia Secretary of State.

This is the first presidential election in which new Georgia voters could register to vote online. The system has had a few glitches – some of which apparently surfaced over the last 24 hours of the registration window.

Earlier this month, the site rejected applicants due to an online snag. Secretary of State Brian Kemp asked folks to try again.

As it is, record numbers of Georgians are registered to vote in the November elections.

According to Georgia’s Secretary of State’s Office, a total of 6,584,933  voters are registered in Georgia; 74,425 applications were submitted online or mailed in to register to vote or update voter on Tuesday.

The numbers show a steady increase from previous years. In 2008, 5,755,750 people were registered to vote. In 2012, records show 6,066,961 were registered to vote.

The General Election, which includes the presidential race, will be held on Nov. 8. Voters can click here to check registration status, learn about early voting or find poll locations.
