Norcross, Ga. - Fire officials in Norcross say arson is the reason for an incident that happened Monday night.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the garage of a townhome in the 3100 block of Smith Ridge Trace, NW at 11:33p.m.
The people inside the home were sleep at the time of the fire and were awakened by the sound of the garage door opening, according to Gwinnett County Fire. The occupants eventually went downstairs and discovered their garage ablaze and escaped unharmed.
Fire Investigators believe an unknown person unlawfully entered the garage and intentionally set the fire.
The fire was quickly contained to the garage by first-arriving fire crews and did not damage the living quarters inside the home. The blaze destroyed a vehicle that was inside the garage and caused extensive cosmetic-heat damage to a second vehicle parked in close proximity in the driveway.
Fire Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at (678) 518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Georgia Arson Control, Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for arson. All tips may be made anonymously.
