Police ID suspect in violent Norcross home invasion

NORCROSS, Ga. --Gwinnett County police have identified a third suspect in a home invasion in which the perpetrators allegedly tied up a young child and fired at responding officers.

Police have secured an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Vidal Mendoza-Garcia of Norcross in connection with a September 20 home invasion and shootout in the 1200 block of Williamsburg Lane in unincorporated Norcross.

Mendoza-Garcia is the third suspect identified in the home invasion. The other two suspects – Javier Gonzalez, 26, of Alpharetta, and Lamar Marcel Bowman, 30, of Norcross, were previously charged and taken into custody. Gonzalez was charged with one count of first degree home invasion. Bowman was charged with one count of first degree home invasion, along with one count of aggravated assault.

Bowman is believed to have been the person who fired at police officers when they arrived at the Williamsburg Lane home. 

The call came into 911 shortly after 2 am from a woman who said she was hiding inside the home with three kids. She said her husband another male family member were also inside the home when the home was invaded. 

When officers arrived, they were met with gunfire from the home, and returned fire. The Gwinnett County Police helicopter and K9 units were dispatched to the scene. As the helicopter and K9 units worked to conduct a search of the home and surrounding area, the first two suspect were captured, while several other suspects remained at large.

Mendoza-Garcia is wanted for first degree home invasion, and is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has information regarding his whereabouts, they are asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta (404-577-8477) immediately. He may be driving a white pick-up truck.
