ATLANTA - One person was killed after a vehicle and MARTA bus collided in southwest Atlanta Friday morning.
A car crashed into a MARTA bus at Campbellton Road SW and Sandringham Drive SW.
The driver of vehicle has been confirmed dead.
Police received a call at 7:47 a.m., Friday morning about an accident involving a MARTA bus and a car. Upon arrival, Atlanta Police Lt. Dorian Graham said they saw extensive damage to the front ends of both vehicles.
APD Officer JD Patterson said the 2011 Chevy Malibu was driving westbound on Campbellton Road SW, traveling on the wrong side of the road, when it struck a MARTA bus, traveling eastbound, head-on.
The driver of the car, who police believe was in his late 20s, was pronounced dead on the scene and was taken by the Fulton County Medical Examiner.
The bus driver was treated at the scene and the nine passengers aboard the bus were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An accident investigation team is on the scene to determine the cause of the accident and whether texting, speeding or sleep was involved. The investigative unit will also review video from the bus, Graham said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have been speeding, lost control and ran the vehicle into the bus. Both vehicles were impounded.
