Pedestrian hit walking on Downtown Connector ramp identified

Pedestrian hit on Downtown Connector dies

ATLANTA -- A man who was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on an exit ramp of the Downtown Connector has been identified.

According to authorities on scene, Chandan Gouri, 27, was walking across the ramp at the 10th Street exit when he was hit. Emergency responders transported Gouri to Grady hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the car that hit Gouri told police he was exiting the interstate when he appeared near the bottom of the ramp. At this time, investigators don't know why Gouri was walking on the roadway and haven't said whether charges are pending.

Accident crews responded to the scene and had lanes blocked to investigate.

Additional congestion was already present due to several lanes of the Connector being blocked due to a resurfacing project.
