ATLANTA - A viral buzz on social media can boost your profile or defame your character. In one recent case, it put a popular Atlanta rapper at the center controversy for a crime that he did not commit.
Jody Breeze has been the target of a false viral video claiming he is the person held responsible for shooting multiple people in the city of Atlanta.
Born Jacoby White, Breeze has been unlawfully dubbed as the suspect in the shooting that injured three people at the West End Mall.
The 32-year-old rapper is best known as a member of the early-2000s Bad Boy South group, Boyz N Da Hood, alongside Jeezy, Gorilla Zoe and others.
The fake story of Breeze's arrest spread through several web sites. Breeze addressed the rumors on his Instagram page, saying "Soooo yall wanna play wit a Real One huh? #WellLetTheGamesBegin #IFeelLikeRappin"
11Alive’s Neima Abduhlahi reached out to APD and the Breeze’s manager for comment and they sent us the following statement:
This story has no correlation with our artist "Jody Breeze". Our artist in not jail and has no involvement with this in incident. The story about our artist shooting 4 people has unfortunately gone viral and we are currently seeking legal action.
Atlanta Police said they are currently investigating the shooting at West End Mall and reviewing surveillance footage from the incident. There are currently no suspects in this case.
