ATLANTA – Hundreds of mourners held a vigil in honor of Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo Wednesday night in Bankhead.

The hip hop recording artist, whose real name was Carlos Walker, died in a single-car accident on Interstate 285 around 2:20 a.m. He was 40 years old.

Many of his fans and supporters said Walker would be missed in the Bankhead community.

“He absolutely was the king of Bankhead, and people just loved everything about him,” said one man. “A big open, kind heart. He was always available to do community events, made charitable donations to folks in the neighborhood. He was definitely a star.”
