Searching for driver in fatal Lamar County accident

LAMAR COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia State Patrol hopes to interview the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal accident in Lamar County.

The wreck happened Monday on Interstate 75 south at mile marker 198.

Troopers said Brian Edward Durst, 53, of Alpharetta pulled over on the highway to change a flat tire. As he worked on his car, a black pickup truck pulling a boat trailer passed him.

Investigators believe a tire on the boat trailer came loose and hit Durst, killing him. He was not hit by the truck or trailer, and it is possible the driver is unaware of the incident. Police are treating the death as accidental.

Anyone who can lead investigators to the truck and its driver is asked to call the GSP at 770-254-7201 or the Lamar County Sheriff's Office at 770-358-5159.
