Multiple arrests made in east Atlanta crime sprees

Police finally arrested several suspects in connection to a string of armed robberies and carjackings.

ATLANTA, Ga -- Police have made arrests in two March 2017 east Atlanta crime sprees.

The first was connected to four armed robberies between March 4-17, which affected eight victims.

The second is linked to a series of carjackings and a residential burglary between March 22-25. That arrest also helped clear two additional crimes in DeKalb County, police said.

Police arrested Daquan Cosby, 19, and his juvenile partner on March 22. Police also arrested a juvenile on March 29 who, they said, was found operating the 2016 Dodge Charger that was stolen from from Hillside Avenue.

On April 1, DeKalb police arrested Richard Davis Jr., 23, and Shenica Timmons, 23, charging both with a robbery just committed on Hillside Avenue.

Three of the victims of the crime spree are roommates, and one told 11Alive's Duffie Dixon she's thankful Atlanta and DeKalb police worked together to nab the suspects.

"The fact these people went out of their way to make sure these three people got caught is incredible to me," she said.

The victim's other roommates recalled the night they were robbed at gunpoint.

"I looked this guy in the eye and wondered what it was like for him, sticking a gun in my face right now," she said.

“Our Zone 6 officers, in coordination with our robbery unit, were able to determine a pattern of behavior in both of these cases that helped us determine that the same individuals were responsible for multiple crimes in our area,” said Maj. Tim Peek, Zone 6 Commander. “Additionally, we were able to communicate with our colleagues in DeKalb to solve cases in both jurisdictions that were committed by the same individuals.”

According to police, Cosby, 19, and a juvenile were arrested after a traffic stop, where officials say a 9mm pistol was recovered from under the passenger seat. Police also said a mask, marijuana, a drug scale and an object that could be construed as a long gun were recovered from the car.

In the armed robbery spree, police say the crimes were committed on Patterson Avenue, Portland Avenue, Monument Avenue and Stokeswood Avenue.

In all four robberies, police said two men armed with a handgun and a long rifle approached victims as they were walking and robbed them of their wallets, keys and cell phones, and also demanded the victims’ pin numbers and bank cards that they later used at ATMs.

In the carjacking spree, a 2011 Jaguar XJ on Glenwood Avenue; a 1999 Toyota Forerunner from Tupelo Street; and a 2005 Toyota Corolla from Allendale Drive in Atlanta, were stolen

A 2010 Honda Civic was also carjacked from Normal Street, while the 2016 Dodge Charger was carjacked from Hillside Avenue in DeKalb County.

According to police, the juvenile-aged suspect followed a woman into a home on Memorial Drive with a long knife to demand the victim’s car and keys. Police said he then attempted to kick in the door to the room that the victim was hiding in but ran off without taking anything when she started yelling for her friend as if he was in the house.

The juvenile was arrested March 28 on a warrant when officers spotted him in the Zone 6 area.
