Stolen car catches fire, shuts down I-20

CONYERS, Ga. - Traffic on Interstate 20 West, just past West Avenue, came to a standstill Wednesday morning after a stolen vehicle caught fire.
 
Conyers Police, Newton County Fire and Rockdale County fire responded to the scene around 6 a.m. According to the GDOT, the vehicle was stolen out of Newton County. It was driven on the highway until the tires peeled off and the rims were exposed causing it to catch fire.
 
 
The suspect(s) ditched the car. At 6:20 a.m., Kim Lucas, Conyers Police spokeswoman, confirmed that two lanes of traffic have reopened.
