2 arrested in home invasion where 9-month-old died

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- DeKalb County Police have made two arrests in a home invasion that claimed the life of a 9-month-old boy.

Devin Thomas, 18, and Marco Watson, 36, have been charged with shooting Kendarius Edwards Jr. to death on May 10.

The home invasion happened at a house on To Lani Farm Road. Several suspects kicked in the house's door and shot Kendarius and three women, including the baby's mother and grandmother. All the women survived, but the child died at a nearby hospital.

Devin Thomas had his first court appearance Thursday afternoon. Marco Watson's first appearance is scheduled for Friday.

DeKalb County Public Safety Director Cedric Alexander said police may make more arrests in this case.

"We want to make sure that any and all that may have had anything to do with the planning, with the execution, with the death of this child and injury of these women who were attempting to protect that child that night are brought to justice," Alexander said.

Police believe the home invasion was related to a fatal shooting at a party in Stone Mountain on May 3. Two teens -- Cutrez Johnson, 16, and Oslushla Smith, 19 -- were arrested in that shooting, as was 20-year-old Kayla Dixon, who witnessed it.

"We suspect very strongly, considering the series of events that led up to this shooting, that's what it was," Alexander said.

Johnson and Smith were taken into custody after a standoff at a southwest Atlanta hotel.

"We're not going to tolerate this kind of Western-style mentality of you just go out and shoot people recklessly because of how you felt on that particular day about something or someone. It's not going to be tolerated," Alexander said.
