ATLANTA -- For those who use Google Maps, a fun thing to do is to find your house or landmarks that you're familiar with from a satellite view.
About a year ago, Google introduced a feature called Street View that allows you to literally ride down the street as if you were in a car and looking from street level at all sorts of things. Street View has been available for a limited number of cities around North America until this week.
This week, Google added 37 more cities to its Street View roster, including Metro Atlanta.
In a blog entry this week, Google officials said that in addition, they had added crisper and cleaner photos in some metro areas, along with adding coverage in a number of national parks. Google also added face-blurring technology so that individuals who are seen in Street View images cannot be easily identified.
The Street View technology was created by using a specially-equipped camera car with a panoramic camera to take images of streets as the car drove up and down each street.
A number of Google Maps users have actually taken to "sightseeing," and posting their finds in blogs and on message boards.
