ATLANTA -- Neighbors said a mother had to drop her two-year-old daughter from a second floor window to escape fast-moving flames at the Pine Cove Apartments in South Fulton County early Monday.

Fulton county fire officials confirm the mother hurt her ankle, but her little girl was not injured.

Both were taken to the hospital.

Fulton county fire crews arrived on the scene just after 4 a.m. Monday and found flames shooting through the roof.

Resident Erica Kinsey said her teenage daughter was the first one who realized they were in danger.

"Smoke was coming from the apartment next door, and she said, `Mom, get out the house. There's a fire next door.' And we all got out," Kinsey told 11Alive News. "I grabbed my son and we had to rush out because the fire was running so fast."

The Pine Cove Apartments are located on Yates Road near Roosevelt Highway. The complex backs up to I-285, so the fire and smoke could be seen from the interstate.

The fire was contained to one building with ten units. They were all destroyed, leaving five families displaced.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
