ATLANTA -- Officials with Sen. Saxby Chambliss' senatorial campaign announced Monday that Sen. John McCain will be coming to Metro Atlanta Thursday for a Chambliss rally at the Cobb Energy Centre.

Michelle Grasso of the Chambliss campaign said that after the 4:30 p.m. rally in Cobb County, McCain would attend a private fundraiser in Atlanta.

At a meeting Monday morning, Chambliss told state Republican party officials and legislators that the 2010 election begins with his current runoff bid against Democratic challenger Jim Martin.

"I don't have to tell you what will happen in our state if we don't prevail," Chambliss said in the Monday meeting of the Republican caucus of the state House or Representatives.

Neither Chambliss nor Martin were able to obtain more than 50 percent of the votes cast in last Tuesday's general election, which led to the campaign for the December 2 runoff.
