
MCDONOUGH -- A man was arrested on murder charges stemming from the death of a 2-year-old girl Friday.
Shammarh Tavon Jenkins, 20, was arrested in DeKalb County and turned over to Henry County where he was booked in the county jail around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. He is being charged with Murder and Cruelty to Children in the First Degree. Jenkins is expected to make his first appearance Monday morning.
His arrests follows events Friday, when emergency officials responded to a house on Cobblestone Drive in McDonough just before noon. They found a 2-year-old girl with severe head trauma. She was rushed by helicopter to Children's Health Care in Atlanta where she died Saturday.
The name of the toddler has not been released and an autopsy is expected to be performed on Monday. The relationship between Jenkins and the toddler is not yet known.
The home is believed to belong to Shamika Jones and her family which 11Alive News profiled after the family fell upon hard times.
