WEST HALL COUNTY - Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said a 24-year-old woman is in grave condition after she and a 6-year old boy were recovered from Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon.

The pair were reportedly part of a family that was swimming near Van Pugn Park.

The woman was found by divers in 8 feet of water. She was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where she is reported to be on life support.

While Hall County personnel were working with the first victim, a Gwinnett County water rescue team on the scene assisted with the near drowning of the 6-year-old boy.

The boy, who was not breathing when he was recovered, was resuscitated by Gwinnett and Hall County personnel. He was transported to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta for further evaluation.

Chief Kimbrell said the family had pulled up to a sand bar and were swimming around their boat when both failed to resurface.

No names have been released.
